I had the tremendous opportunity to photograph former marathon world record holder Wilson Kipsang in February of 2017. Kipsang is an iconic sportsman but also one of the most humble and down to earth people you could meet. In keeping with this I wanted to shoot a portrait that was iconic in style but personable, almost intimate. I had only 2 minutes with Wilson after a running seminar he was speaking at at Aberdeen Sports Village so I set up as much as I could in advance and just tweaked one or two things in my quick test shots when he was ready. A few clicks later and he was whisked away for another photocall. You don’t always get to shoot high profile subjects like this and they certainly have an energy about them that ‘regular’ people just don’t have so it’s always exciting. It’s another one of those memorable experiences that my camera has kindly brought me over the years. See the full image below.
