PR Agency The Big Partnership brought me in to photograph well-known local businessman Stewart Milne. Mr Milne is a really busy guy so I was given a 5 minute slot to get shots of him, another director and of them both together. No time for variety on this one, just one neat and tidy setup with the company branding in the shot. Plan A had been to use the branding on the glass frontage of the HQ building. As soon as I go there I knew that was a non-starter as the sun had just gone down and I didn’t have time to work out the lighting. Plan B was to have them in front of the logo in reception. There wasn’t a logo in reception so that didn’t get off the ground either. Now I had to come up with Plan C on the spot! I had a quick look around the carpark and found a nice Stewart Milne Group sign nestled in some bushes. Perfect. The sun had gone down so the ambient light was very very low – this effectively gave me a blank canvas to paint as I pleased. It’s always good to keep it simple especially when time is against you so I placed one light in the bushes pointing at the sign and another bouncing into an umbrella to light the people in the foreground. Simple, effective and quick. Mr Milne appeared just as I was finished setting up and 5 minutes later we were done.
